Concrete Slab
The most common choice. Provides a finished floor and ties the building down evenly. Typical thickness is 4–6 inches with rebar or fiber mesh. Required for almost all commercial uses.
Pier Foundation
Concrete piers at each column location. Ideal for storage buildings, agricultural shelters, or buildings without a finished floor. Substantially cheaper than a slab.
Perimeter Footing
A continuous footing around the building perimeter with infill (gravel or eventual slab). Common for buildings that may have flooring added later.
Soil Considerations
In expansive clay or low-bearing soils, you may need engineered foundations with additional reinforcement. A geotechnical report is recommended for buildings over 60 ft wide or in areas with known soil issues.
Coordinate With Your Building Manufacturer
Always coordinate your foundation drawings with your building manufacturer. Anchor bolt patterns must match exactly.
